Radio Gazza - Canadian Radio Update for October 31st, 2008

It's a special Halloween / US Election day edition this week. I can only imagine how many Sarah Palins are going to be running around at various parties this year. Personally I'm not much into dressing up. I think it stems from all those crappy plastic costumes I had as a kid.

Radio Gazza - Canadian Radio Update for October 17th, 2008

Everything is back in full swing this week, as the holiday has passed and ratings enter their final throes. Some congratulations go out this week to stalwart Canadian folk-rockers Spirit Of The West, whom Frontside's Vince Ditrich not only manages, but also Drums in. The band is being inducted into the Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame over the weekend, and equally notable, in fact possibly even more notable to some is that the band will not only sing the National anthem at the Oilers/Flames game, but they'll also be appearing as featured guests during the "Satellite Hotstove" during the Hockey Night In Canada broadcast.

Radio Gazza - Canadian Radio Update for October 10th, 2008

It's Thanksgiving weekend up Canada way this weekend, but that didn't seem to slow things down on the music front as the majors continue to drop their fall line-up of blockbuster tracks. New music from Nickelback, Britney and Beyonce (which will show up next week) undoubtedly ruled the day. Stations and most companies will be closed on Monday, just in case you're wondering why no one has called you back as of around 2pm today. Have a good one, I'll be cooking up a Tofurky in your honour. Mmmm...

Notable:
-It seems that the station in question from the 'on-air' resignation I sent out last week is now reporting that it was actually a stunt designed to get some publicity. Seemed pretty authentic sounding to me. Leaves you wondering if we're being spun as a cover up.
-BBM Summer ratings came out earlier this week you can get the full report here. Most things remained flat, but of interest:
Live Ottawa dropped from 4.6 to 2.7
Z103 Toronto is up from 3.9 to 4.9
Hot 103 Winnipeg is up from 9.7 to 11.7
Fuel Calgary dropped from 2.1 to 1.6
Sonic Edmonton is up from 4.6 to 6.3
Bear Edmonton is up from 9.7 to 11.6
Beat Vancouver is up from 7.0 to 9.8

This Week's Most Added Tracks at Canadian Radio (**As published by Radio & Records):

#1 Britney Spears "Womanizer"
#2 Nickelback "Gotta Be Somebody"
#3 Kardinal Offishall feat Keri Hilson "Numba 1"

Rock:
#1 Nickelback "Gotta Be Somebody"
#2 Kings Of Leon "Sex On Fire"
#3 Trews "Man Of Two Minds"

Radio Gazza - Canadian Radio Update for October 3rd, 2008

Had a great swing up to Montréal last week for some R&R where of course business gets done. Especially since I unknowingly scheduled my vacation during the Pop Montréal festival.

Notable:
Honestly nothing terribly interesting happened in radio news this week, but I did receive this amazing clip of Jock at WFYV Jacksonville who found out he was being replaced 3 days in advance. So instead of drifting off quietly into the night he went out in style.
